Balenciaga Store Façade incorporating Crystalline Silicon Photovoltaic Technology Glass by Onyx Solar

BALENCIAGA STORE · MIAMI, UNITED STATES

RENOVATION

Balenciaga incorporated a photovoltaic curtain wall into its flagship store in the vibrant Miami Design District. This innovative installation features hurricane-resistant photovoltaic insulating glass units crafted from crystalline silicon photovoltaic solar cells. The installation is aligned with Kering Group’s commitment to innovation and carbon footprint reduction across its stores. The polycrystalline photovoltaic glass at Balenciaga’s Miami flagship store was made in a chic pale blue hue, adding a fashionable touch to the storefront. Each glass panel has a nominal peak power of 338 Wp contributing to a total system that generates over 7,700 kWh/ year. Balenciaga’s fusion of sustainability and style not only elevates its aesthetic appeal but also sets a noteworthy example of integrating renewable energy solutions in the realm of highend retail.

EXPLORE THE INNOVATIVE FEATURES OF THIS SUSTAINABLE ENERGY PROJECT

The photovoltaic glass used in the Balenciaga store in Miami was specifically selected to meet the unique demands of both the climate and the brand’s aesthetic. With a nominal power of 101 Wp per square meter, the system ensures efficient energy generation while meeting the store's energy needs. The 24% visible light transmission and an 18% solar factor balance natural lighting with effective solar control, reducing the store’s reliance on artificial light while maintaining a comfortable indoor environment. The integration of this photovoltaic solution enhances the building’s sustainability credentials, demonstrating how high-end retail can embrace renewable energy without compromising on design or luxury.
