BOOTS PHARMACY · LONDON, GREAT BRITAIN
Boots, the largest pharmacy chain in Great Britain and Ireland, has incorporated a state-of-the-art photovoltaic glass curtain wall at its London offices. This innovative installation not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the building but also serves as a functional showroom for Boots to explore the benefits of integrating sustainable energy solutions into their facilities.
The curtain wall, designed with low-emissivity (low-e) amorphous silicon photovoltaic glass, features three different levels of semitransparency: low, medium, and high. This variation allows Boots to evaluate, in real-time, the impact of each transparency level on energy savings and building efficiency. By harnessing solar power through this cutting-edge technology, the company is positioning itself as a leader in sustainability, reducing its reliance on traditional energy sources and lowering its carbon footprint.
The photovoltaic glass used in this project is specifically tailored to meet the energy efficiency and design requirements of Boots Pharmacy in London. It can reach a nominal power of 109 Wp per square meter, this high-performance glass plays a critical role in generating renewable energy while also contributing to the overall thermal insulation of the building. Its visible light transmission (VLT) and g-value, both surpassing 10%, ensure that natural light enters the interior spaces without causing excessive heat gain, which reduces the demand for artificial lighting and air conditioning.
