BRUNEL UNIVERSITY · UXBRIGDE, LONDON
Brunel University, situated in Uxbridge, west London, has integrated cutting-edge transparent photovoltaic glass from Onyx Solar into the façade of its iconic Wilfred Brown Building. This installation is part of the building’s extensive renovation, marking a new step toward sustainability and energy efficiency. The project features 42 units of photovoltaic glass, with some glass panels. These photovoltaic glass units not only allow natural light to fill the interior spaces but also provide unobstructed views while harnessing solar energy to generate clean, free electricity. Additionally, the glass enhances the building’s thermal comfort by filtering harmful UV and infrared radiation, contributing to significant energy savings.
The photovoltaic glass used in this project is specifically designed to meet the energy needs and architectural specifications of Brunel University. It can reach a nominal power of 40 Wp per square meter, this advanced photovoltaic glass significantly contributes to the building’s sustainability goals by producing clean energy on-site. Its visible light transmission (VLT) and g-value, both surpassing 20%, ensure that ample natural light enters the building while controlling solar heat gain, reducing the need for artificial lighting and cooling systems. This balance between energy efficiency and aesthetic appeal makes the PV glass an ideal choice for the Wilfred Brown Building. Its ability to provide thermal insulation while generating electricity demonstrates the versatility and innovation of Onyx Solar’s solutions.
