COLOURED CANOPY · NORWICH, UNITED KINGDOM
Onyx Solar has provided its innovative crystalline silicon photovoltaic glass for a vibrant and functional canopy system at a private residence in Norwich, United Kingdom. This bespoke installation showcases how renewable energy solutions can seamlessly blend with architectural aesthetics.
The canopy features three different sizes of trapezoidal monocrystalline glass units, each incorporating a colored PVB layer that adds a striking visual appeal. The design includes nine trapezoidal colored glass units measuring 1,400 x 1,847 mm and four blue trapezoidal glass units of 2,554 x 1,457 mm, strategically placed at the corners of the structure to enhance the overall look. Each photovoltaic glass unit also contains a 12 mm air chamber, which significantly improves thermal comfort while generating clean energy, reducing the household’s electricity consumption. The fully customized design for the client creates a stunning “photovoltaic mosaic,” offering not only shelter and shade but also a dynamic, colorful appearance that enriches the outdoor space.
This bespoke design, tailored specifically to the client's needs, showcases how photovoltaic technology can contribute to sustainable living without compromising on design or functionality. The canopy, which can reach a nominal power of 78 Wp per square meter and boasts both a VLT and g-value of more than 30%, not only provides shade and protection but also enhances the visual identity of the residence, transforming the outdoor space into a colorful, energy-efficient environment.
“I am very grateful for successfully bringing this project to a conclusion. It is indeed one of a kind and very unique. Once again my thanks and appreciation to the entire team involved in the project."
