ELSA TRIOLET · FRANCE
The Elsa Triolet Institute in France, originally built in 1979, has undergone a transformative reconstruction that now integrates Onyx Solar’s advanced photovoltaic glass technology. As part of the renovation, the building’s hall features a skylight made from monocrystalline photovoltaic glass, which not only enhances the aesthetics of the space but also significantly improves its energy efficiency. This state-of-the-art skylight is composed of 1,600x800 mm photovoltaic modules, each with a power capacity of 124 Wp. The double-glazed design includes a 16 mm argon chamber, providing superior insulation while also protecting the interior from harmful solar radiation. This combination of high performance and protection makes it ideal for improving the building’s energy efficiency and occupant comfort. With an energy output exceeding 300 MWh, this skylight will contribute to the institute’s renewable energy goals and help prevent the emission of over 200 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. The integration of Onyx Solar’s photovoltaic glass not only underscores the institute’s commitment to sustainability but also demonstrates how modern technology can be seamlessly incorporated into historic buildings.
The photovoltaic glass for the Elsa Triolet Institute was carefully selected to meet the building’s specific energy and environmental needs. With its ability to reach a nominal power of 97 Wp per square meter, the glass efficiently generates clean energy while allowing over 50% visible light transmission and a solar factor that helps manage heat gain. This ensures a well-lit, comfortable indoor environment while reducing the building’s reliance on external power sources. The high transparency of the photovoltaic glass also aligns with the architectural vision, maintaining an open, bright ambiance within the hall. The durability of the photovoltaic glass, combined with its energy-generating capacity, makes it a perfect fit for this educational institution, blending sustainability with design excellence.
