ENSNARE
Envelope meSh and digital framework for building Renovation
Programme: H2020. European Commission.
ENSNARE aims to accelerate the adoption of Nearly Zero Energy Building (NZEB) renovations in Europe, focusing on residential properties. The project introduces two key technologies: Building Components and Digital Solutions.
Key Innovations:
- Envelope Mesh: A modular, industrialized system for quick assembly and integration of components and energy/data networks. It includes energy harvesting, storage, and distribution technologies.
- Digital Platform: Provides stakeholders with a structured framework and access to a variety of technologies for deep renovations. It supports every phase from initial planning and data acquisition to manufacturing, construction, and maintenance.
Developments Include:
- Modular Components: Includes active windows for ventilation and heat recovery, solar harvesting devices (thermal collectors, PV panels), heat pumps, and energy batteries for load management.
- Digital Tools: Connect to the platform for streamlined renovations. Features include automated data acquisition, LCA/LCC analysis, digital BIM modeling, computer-assisted manufacturing (CAM), and a smart building management system (sBMS) for optimized operations.
- Digital Twin: Starts as a basic digital model and evolves into a complex, interactive tool throughout the project.
Validation: The ENSNARE solution will be tested in three pilot renovation projects across different climates—Nordic, Continental, and Mediterranean—and in three virtual demo buildings to scale the solution.
Project Status: Ongoing.
