GDR Headquarters curtain wall incorporating Amorphous Silicon Photovoltaic Technology Glass by Onyx Solar

GDR HEADQUARTERS · MÁLAGA, SPAIN

NEW CONSTRUCTION

Onyx Solar has installed a state-of-the-art photovoltaic curtain wall at the new headquarters of the Guadalhorce Valley Rural Development Group (GDR), significantly reducing the building's energy consumption while promoting sustainability. Located in the heart of the Guadalhorce Valley in Málaga, this new center is designed as a social, economic, and environmental innovation hub. It serves as the base for organizations and associations working to foster development and innovation throughout the region. The installation of Onyx Solar’s photovoltaic glass on the building’s façade reflects the center’s commitment to environmental stewardship and cutting-edge technology.

The custom-made amorphous silicon glass modules installed for the curtain wall generate over 2,700 kWh of clean energy annually, with a peak power capacity of 2.5 kWp. These low-emissivity (low-e) photovoltaic glass panels are designed not only for energy generation but also to enhance the building’s thermal and acoustic insulation, further contributing to its overall energy efficiency. The semi-transparency of 20% (L vision) allows natural light to enter the building, reducing the need for artificial lighting while minimizing heat gain and the greenhouse effect, thanks to a solar factor (g-value) ranging from 5% to 40%.

EXPLORE THE INNOVATIVE FEATURES OF THIS SUSTAINABLE ENERGY PROJECT

The photovoltaic glass installed at the GDR Headquarters in Málaga exemplifies how sustainable technology can be seamlessly integrated into a building’s design. The amorphous silicon photovoltaic glass used in this project was specifically chosen for its ability to optimize energy efficiency while maintaining the aesthetic and functional requirements of the building. Its capacity to generate renewable energy aligns with the region’s vision for a greener, more sustainable future. In addition to energy generation, the photovoltaic glass also enhances the building's comfort levels by improving thermal insulation and controlling solar heat gain. This results in lower cooling costs during the hot Málaga summers, contributing to the building’s overall energy savings.
