Hewlett Packard Canopy incorporating Crystalline Silicon Photovoltaic Technology Glass by Onyx Solar

HEWLETT PACKARD · BARCELONA, SPAIN

RENOVATION

Representing one of the globe’s largest and most advanced centers for digital printing technology in HP’s new 3D Research and Development Center in Barcelona, Spain, the project involves a photovoltaic canopy crafted from high-density solar cell glass. This design not only offers shade but also maximizes energy generation capacity. Each photovoltaic glass panel measures approximately 2,890 x 730 mm, covering a total area of 1,000 m2. The cumulative system size amounted to 138 kWp, allowing the client to offset a substantial portion of its daily energy consumption through sustainable energy generation.

EXPLORE THE INNOVATIVE FEATURES OF THIS SUSTAINABLE ENERGY PROJECT

The photovoltaic glass selected for this project aligns perfectly with Hewlett Packard’s focus on innovation, sustainability, and efficiency. It can reach a nominal power of 129 Wp per square meter, with a visible light transmission (VLT) of 30% and a g-value of 40%, ensuring both energy efficiency and user comfort. The canopy’s ability to provide shade while generating renewable energy highlights how photovoltaic glass can simultaneously enhance user comfort and significantly reduce the building’s carbon footprint. The transparency of the glass allows for the optimal balance between natural light and solar protection, creating a pleasant and productive environment for those working in the center. Additionally, the use of high-density solar cells ensures maximum energy generation even in a compact area, making it a highly efficient solution for HP’s energy demands. This project not only supports Hewlett Packard’s sustainability goals but also showcases how cutting-edge solar technology can be seamlessly integrated into corporate environments, reinforcing their commitment to green energy while maintaining architectural integrity.
