ING DIRECT BANK · MADRID, SPAIN
NEW CONSTRUCTION
ING is one of the largest online banks of the world. They integrated a-Si photovoltaic glass panes in the central atrium located in their offices in Madrid. This skylight is capable of generating a sufficient amount of energy to feed over 700 light points throughout the building. Thus preventing the release of tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. Besides energy generation the photovoltaic glass panes supplied filter harmful radiation and heat while also allowing the natural light to pass through to ensure the comfort of workers and visitors.
This project with amorphous silicon photovoltaic glass was specifically tailored to meet the energy and aesthetic needs of the ING Direct Bank building. These glass panels not only contributes to the building’s overall sustainability goals but also helps regulate interior temperatures by reducing solar heat gain, which lowers the demand for artificial cooling. The high level of customization of the photovoltaic glass ensures that it aligns with the architectural design, allowing natural light to illuminate the atrium without compromising energy efficiency or comfort. Additionally, the glass panel's ability to filter harmful UV and infrared radiation enhances the health and well-being of employees and visitors by creating a more comfortable and safe environment. The integration of this technology showcases ING’s commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility, making it a benchmark for modern sustainable architecture in the financial sector.
"ING aims to put sustainability at the heart of what we do, defining new ways of doing business where the planet is just as important as economic growth. Our buildings and data centres align with the low-carbon economy of the future."
