METABUILDING LABS

METAclustered: Driving SME Innovation in Building Materials

Programme: H2020. European Commission.

The METABUILDING LABS project, funded by Horizon 2020, is dedicated to advancing nearly-zero energy, zero-emission buildings as part of the Paris Climate Agreement goals. This five-year initiative brings together 40 partners from 13 European countries to support SMEs in the construction sector by providing them with easy access to cutting-edge testing facilities.

The project offers a unique opportunity for SMEs to test and develop next-generation building envelope solutions. These testing facilities include:

  • Research and technology organizations (RTOs)
  • Living labs
  • Social housing buildings

Spread across Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and Turkey. This broad network ensures that innovative technologies can be thoroughly vetted and refined in diverse environments.

METABUILDING LABS focuses on helping Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) innovate and stay competitive. By providing access to open innovation testbeds (OITBs), the project facilitates the development of tailored solutions and accelerates the path from concept to market. This support structure is crucial for SMEs to effectively compete with larger industry players and drive the future of building materials.

Project Status: Ongoing.
