NEW CONSTRUCTION
Onyx Solar provided its amorphous silicon photovoltaic safety laminated glass panels for the impressive Mirax Tower in Manila, Philippines. This project demonstrates how photovoltaic glass can be seamlessly integrated into a modern high-rise, enhancing the building's overall performance while maintaining a sleek architectural aesthetic. The façade design incorporates two levels of transparency: opaque photovoltaic glass for the spandrel areas and semi-transparent glass with 16% visible light transmittance for the vision areas. This allows natural light to permeate the interiors while blocking harmful ultraviolet and infrared radiation, improving occupant comfort and energy efficiency.
With the glass reaching a nominal power of 34 Wp per square meter, it also contributes to the building's sustainability goals by generating clean, renewable energy on-site. The installation not only supports energy generation but also offers thermal insulation benefits, further optimizing the building's environmental footprint. The use of Onyx Solar's technology in the Mirax Tower aligns with the growing demand for sustainable, energy-efficient solutions in the Philippines' rapidly urbanizing landscape.
The photovoltaic glass panels were selected for their ability to meet the specific environmental challenges of Manila's tropical climate. In addition to providing energy generation, the glass panels contribute to reducing reliance on artificial lighting and cooling systems, enhancing overall energy efficiency. The non-transparent spandrel areas offer excellent thermal insulation, preventing heat transfer and improving interior comfort. This tailored approach not only ensures sustainability but also elevates the building's aesthetic appeal, aligning with modern architectural standards and the client’s commitment to eco-friendly solutions.
