LYCÉE EMMANUEL CHABRIER · AUVERGNE, FRANCE
Onyx Solar has provided advanced photovoltaic glass for the creation of a photovoltaic canopy at Lycée Polyvalent Emmanuel Chabrier, located in Yssingeaux, in the Auvergne region of France. This innovative installation serves as both a functional and educational feature, promoting renewable energy and a sustainable lifestyle among students and staff.
The canopy is positioned at the main entrance to the campus, where hundreds of people pass through daily. It also shelters the bicycle parking area, encouraging the use of eco-friendly transport options. The installation includes 30 crystalline silicon photovoltaic glass panels, each measuring 1,823 x 1,170 mm. These glass units incorporate 66 monocrystalline cells, with a peak power output of 314 Wp per module, delivering a total power capacity that supports the school's energy needs. The photovoltaic glass configuration is 5T+5T mm and includes HST (Heat Soak Test) treatment, ensuring maximum safety for those who use the structure daily. This process reduces the risk of spontaneous glass breakage, a crucial feature for an area with high foot traffic.
The photovoltaic canopy at Lycée Emmanuel Chabrier exemplifies how sustainable energy can be effectively integrated into public spaces, while also offering educational value to students. By positioning the canopy at the entrance and bicycle parking area, the project not only generates clean energy but also actively promotes eco-friendly transportation habits. The photovoltaic glass panels, designed with monocrystalline silicon cells, boast an efficiency that ensures the building's energy consumption is supported through renewable sources, reducing reliance on conventional power grids.
The canopy also helps reduce solar heat gain, making it an energy-efficient solution that contributes to the school’s overall sustainability goals. The project's blend of functionality, safety, and educational impact highlights the potential for photovoltaic glass to reshape public spaces into eco-conscious environments while offering tangible benefits in terms of energy savings and environmental responsibility.
