GEELEN COUNTERFLOW · HAELEN, NETHERLANDS
NEW CONSTRUCTION
Located in the Netherlands, this project features photovoltaic glass manufactured using monocrystalline 5BB technology. The glass panels has large dimensions of up to 3829 x 1994 mm, a double 12 mm argon chamber, and a total thickness of 60 mm, with an individual weight of 630 kg, making it the heaviest glass manufactured by Onyx Solar to date. The Geelen Counterflow office building in Haelen, Netherlands, received a five-star rating on the BREEAM NL certification system after expanding its headquarters. This building expansion, designed by Architecten en Bouwmeesters and built in 2014, holds the title of the most sustainable office worldwide with a BREEAM score of 99.94%.
The photovoltaic glass selected for this project was perfectly suited to meet the building’s sustainability and energy-efficiency goals. With a nominal power that can reach 95 Wp per square meter, this photovoltaic glass ensures a significant contribution to the building’s renewable energy generation. Its 51% visible light transmission allows ample natural light into the interior spaces, creating a bright and comfortable working environment without compromising energy efficiency. The 23% g-value further aids in controlling solar heat gain, minimizing the need for additional cooling, which is essential for maintaining low energy consumption in the building. The glass not only contributes to energy savings but also aligns with the design team’s vision of combining cutting-edge technology with eco-friendly solutions. By integrating this high-performance photovoltaic glass, Geelen Counterflow continues to set new benchmarks in sustainable architecture, showcasing how advanced glass technologies can harmonize with nature while delivering outstanding functional and aesthetic results.
