BUILDING SORIA CAMPUS · SORIA, SPAIN
Onyx Solar has supplied its high-performance photovoltaic glass for the main façade of the new R+D+I technological building at the University of Valladolid’s Soria Campus. This state-of-the-art building, designed to achieve energy self-sufficiency, sets a new global standard for sustainable architecture. The installation includes 283 units of dark transparency amorphous silicon photovoltaic glass, each measuring 1,245 x 635 mm and configured in 3+4 mm glass thickness. The photovoltaic glass was carefully selected to optimize solar capture while allowing natural light into the building, ensuring both energy generation and interior comfort.
This new facility on the Duques de Soria Campus is set to become a unique global example of energy efficiency. Not only will it generate enough renewable energy for self-sufficiency, but it will also produce a positive carbon balance, contributing to the fight against climate change. The building has been rated with an “Efficiency A” label, and its design incorporates advanced energy systems that will serve as a living laboratory for researchers, architects, and engineers seeking innovative solutions in sustainable construction.
Designed by renowned architect Francisco Valbuena, who was recently honored at the Paris Climate Change Summit, this building is an extension of his groundbreaking work on the Lucía Building—the most sustainable structure in Europe. The R+D+I building will not only serve as a functional research center but also as a model for future developments in energy efficiency, merging modern technology with innovative architectural design.
