VASTEK GROUP OFFICE · INCHEON, KOREA
Onyx Solar has supplied cutting-edge photovoltaic glass for a unique photovoltaic ventilated façade at Vastek Group's office in Incheon, South Korea. This innovative project includes a prototype for a self-sustaining elevator powered by the energy generated through photovoltaic glass. The goal is to expand this sustainable application on a larger scale in future projects. The installation features 54 colored crystalline silicon photovoltaic glass modules, each measuring 1,700 x 1,000 mm. These glass panels were designed with no transparency to maximize energy output, and they were customized in vibrant shades of orange, pink, and green, as per the client’s aesthetic preferences.
Onyx Solar’s photovoltaic glass is renowned for its versatility, offering limitless design configurations and a wide palette of color options. While the exterior photovoltaic active material is naturally black to optimize solar energy absorption, the interior can display various colors. In this project, colored interlayers (PVB) were used to achieve the desired hues, ensuring a perfect match with the architectural design.
Beyond colored PVB interlayers, Onyx Solar provides additional techniques to create solid colors through screen printing and ceramic frit processes, delivering a wide range of color customization. Depending on light intensity, the color shades can shift, enhancing both the aesthetic and functional appeal of the façade. Customers can choose from:
- Onyx Solar + Vanceva: Transparent color PV glass with over 2,000 color combinations.
- Onyx Solar + RAI: Non-transparent color PV glass available in more than 213 colors.
Vastek Group, specializing in engineering, IT, and consulting for the pharmaceutical and medical device industries, chose Onyx Solar to bring innovative and sustainable solutions to its new office. The building showcases how photovoltaic technology can enhance both energy efficiency and architectural beauty, while contributing to a greener future.
