CABRILS SPORT CENTER · BARCELONA, SPAIN
Onyx Solar provided customized photovoltaic glass for the refurbishment of the Cabrils Municipal Sports Center, located near Barcelona, Spain. This project involved integrating advanced photovoltaic glass into the facility’s skylight, enhancing the building's energy efficiency while improving overall performance and sustainability.
The photovoltaic glass panels are designed with 60 monocrystalline solar cells per unit, offering a transparency level of 19% within a 4T+4T laminated glass structure. This innovative system not only generates renewable energy but also allows natural light to illuminate the sports center’s interior, providing both thermal insulation and visual comfort throughout the year.
The rooftop orientation and inclination were carefully optimized to maximize solar energy production. The photovoltaic glass system is expected to generate approximately 54,000 kWh of clean energy annually, significantly reducing the building’s reliance on external power sources. This energy output is sufficient to power more than 3,000 light points daily, fulfilling a substantial portion of the sports center’s energy demands.
Beyond energy generation, the photovoltaic glass contributes to reducing the building's carbon footprint, aligning with broader sustainability goals. The glass also filters harmful UV and infrared rays, enhancing the comfort and safety of the facility’s users. This innovative integration demonstrates how renewable energy solutions can be seamlessly incorporated into architectural design, supporting both environmental and functional needs.
