PHOTOVOLTAIC STREET FURNITURE · SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA
PHOTOVOLTAIC FURNITURE · CRYSTALLLINE SILICON TECHNOLOGY
Onyx Solar has successfully integrated its crystalline silicon photovoltaic glass into an innovative street furniture project in Sydney, Australia. The ChillOUT Hub canopies, developed in collaboration with Georges River Council, UNSW, and Street Furniture Australia, harness clean, sustainable energy to power modern urban spaces.
These ChillOUT Hubs serve as smart outdoor community spaces, equipped with public WiFi, device charging stations, seating, tables, smart containers, drinking fountains, lighting, and planters. The photovoltaic glass modules installed on the canopy surfaces generate renewable energy while providing shade and comfort for users. Each hub features a modular design incorporating Smart Tree shade structures and urban furniture, making them flexible spaces for community connection, work, and recreation.
Located in three centers across South West Sydney, these hubs offer a perfect spot for seniors, parents, and children to relax, socialize, and engage in play. The ChillOUT Hubs are a forward - thinking initiative, promoting sustainable energy use and contributing to the enhancement of community spaces.
The photovoltaic glass used in this project is an ideal choice, offering a nominal power capacity of up to 121 Wp per square meter. With a visible light transmission (VLT) of 37% and a solar factor (g-value) surpassing 40%, the glass balances energy generation and comfort, allowing natural light to filter through while efficiently controlling heat gain. This combination ensures a comfortable, shaded environment for users, reducing the need for additional cooling while still producing renewable energy. By integrating these advanced glass solutions, the ChillOUT Hubs demonstrate a perfect synergy between sustainability and modern urban design, making public spaces more environmentally friendly and energy-efficient.
