PRIVATE RESIDENCE · LIMURU, KENYA
Onyx Solar has delivered its Building-Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) solutions for a private residence in the serene town of Limuru, Kiambu County, Kenya. Known for its lush green landscapes, Limuru now boasts an elegant residential installation that combines aesthetic appeal with sustainable energy generation.
This project features three custom-designed photovoltaic canopies surrounding the residence, incorporating 46 amorphous silicon glass panels with medium transparency. The glass units come in two sizes: 43 panels measuring 1,849 x 1,245 mm and 3 smaller panels measuring 1,849 x 622 mm, all configured with a 6+3+6 structure for durability and efficiency. The canopies not only enhance the visual appeal of the residence but also harness solar energy to provide clean, cost-effective power. Additionally, the glass modules filter out harmful UV and IR radiation, ensuring a comfortable living environment by reducing solar heat gain while maintaining natural light.
The characteristics of the photovoltaic glass for this project make it an ideal choice for the Kenyan climate. The photovoltaic glass is specifically designed to handle high levels of sunlight, efficiently converting it into clean energy while providing much-needed shade. The amorphous silicon technology is well-suited for lower-light conditions, ensuring consistent energy generation throughout the day, even during cloudy periods. This integration of technology and design not only aligns with the client’s sustainability goals but also enhances the overall energy efficiency of the home.
