PRIVATE RESIDENCE · MONTREUX, SWITZERLAND
Onyx Solar, the global leader in Building-Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV), is proud to have contributed its cutting-edge technology to a stunning private residence in Montreux, Switzerland. Settled along the shores of Lake Geneva and known for its breathtaking views of the Alps, Montreux is a destination of luxury and natural beauty.
This project features the integration of 12 amorphous silicon photovoltaic glass units as a custom-designed canopy for the residence. The glass modules, available in dimensions of 2,714 x 700 mm and 2,524 x 579 mm, provide both functional energy generation and architectural elegance. The photovoltaic glass incorporates a 16 mm double argon-filled chamber, enhancing thermal insulation. Argon gas acts as a barrier between the panes, minimizing heat transfer and optimizing comfort. Additionally, the high-transparency glass reduces the need for artificial lighting during the day, creating a bright, airy living space.
The photovoltaic glass used in this project is an ideal choice for the Montreux residence, given its ability to combine functionality and aesthetics seamlessly. It can reach nominal power of 28 Wp per square meter, the photovoltaic glass efficiently generates clean energy, contributing to the sustainability of the home while maintaining its luxurious feel. The visible light transmission (VLT) is 30% ensures ample natural light fills the interior, reducing the reliance on artificial lighting, which is particularly advantageous in a residential setting. Moreover, the glass's g-value of 30% helps control solar heat gain, ensuring that the residence remains cool in the summer and reducing the need for excessive air conditioning. This balance between energy generation and thermal performance aligns with the homeowner’s specifications for an eco-friendly yet sophisticated design.
