SIERRA E-FACILITY · COIMBATORE, INDIA
Onyx Solar has completed a cutting-edge photovoltaic installation at the Sierra E-Facility headquarters in Coimbatore, India. This project features a Photovoltaic curtain wall made from advanced amorphous silicon photovoltaic glass, enhancing both the functionality and aesthetic of the building's main façade.
The design combines Onyx Solar's transparent photovoltaic glass with conventional glass, creating a striking visual effect while improving the building’s energy efficiency. The curtain wall integrates laminated safety glass with standard dimensions of 1,245 x 1,849 mm and medium transparency. This facility scored an impressive 103 out of 110 points on the LEED-NC rating system, showcasing its commitment to sustainability. The project highlights how renewable energy solutions, such as Onyx Solar's photovoltaic glass, can be seamlessly integrated into building façades to enhance energy efficiency and aesthetic appeal, all while reducing the building's carbon footprint.
The photovoltaic glass chosen for the Sierra E-Facility was specifically designed to meet both the environmental and architectural needs of the project. With its ability to reach a nominal power output of 30 Wp per square meter, the glass helps generate renewable energy on-site, directly contributing to the facility's sustainability goals. Its medium transparency allows for a balance of natural light while still reducing heat gain, which is critical in Coimbatore’s warm climate. By filtering ultraviolet and infrared radiation, the glass enhances the comfort of the building’s occupants, reducing the need for artificial cooling. The integration of this high-performance photovoltaic glass not only helps the building lower energy consumption but also aligns with India’s push toward more sustainable and energy-efficient buildings, making the Sierra E-Facility a model for future developments.
