There are 3,250 photovoltaic glasses in this installation, covering a total area of 6,500 m2 (69,965 sqft) and 1 MW of installed power. This project sets a new milestone by being the largest photovoltaic integration (BIPV project) in the continent.
Each PV glass measures 2,000x1,000 mm, and contains a blue ceramic frit to match Sterling Bank's aesthetic requirements. The glass configuration on each unit is 4+4 mm.
Originally built in the 1980's, this photovoltaic integration provides Sterling Bank with an innovative design while providing the bank's employees with ample free and clean energy for their use.
Sterling Bank is a full service national commercial bank in Nigeria which has evolved from the nation’s pre-eminent investment banking institution to a fully-fledged commercial bank. In Nigeria and across Africa, it is without a doubt one of the most prominent banks.
With over 3,000 professional employees, Sterling Bank has about 1,000,000 active customers, and operates from 189 business offices, about 776 ATMs and more than 3,000 POS terminals across Nigeria.
“We are generally very proud of the commitment of Onyx Solar to exceed the expectations of its clients, especially the attention and focus given to customer-related matters by Executives in the company".

The installation will allow Sterling Bank to save energy costs and reduce its carbon footprint. Onyx Solar's photovoltaic glass is easy to install and maintain, meaning that the Nigerian bank can take advantage of both the active and passive properties of this innovative technology.
The photovoltaic integration was featured in US Glass Magazine. It is a publication that focuses on the glass industry and its many applications. It is a valuable resource for architects, building contractors, designers, and others in the building and construction industry who are looking to stay informed and up-to-date on the latest developments in glass technology and design.
