THE ENGLISH CENTER SCHOOL · CADIZ, SPAIN
Onyx Solar has designed and produced an innovative photovoltaic curtain wall for the renovated bilingual school, "El Centro Inglés," located in El Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz. This state-of-the-art installation, made of amorphous silicon glass, aligns with the school's ambitious "Looking to the Future" project, which aims to create a more sustainable and energy-efficient learning environment. The curtain wall is composed of 262 laminated safety glass panels, each with a standard size of 1,245 x 635 mm and an IGU (insulated glass unit) configuration. With medium transparency, the photovoltaic glass allows natural light to enter the building while simultaneously generating clean energy to power the school. This dual functionality enhances both the building’s energy performance and the quality of the indoor learning environment.
Located in the Picadilly Building, this photovoltaic curtain wall serves as the connecting feature between all the school's newly renovated spaces, improving the flow of students and staff between the entrances and exits. The renovation also includes the addition of modern common areas and expanded classrooms, designed to support the future needs of the students and staff. As the centerpiece of the "Looking to the Future" project, this photovoltaic curtain wall not only reduces the school's carbon footprint but also stands as a symbol of its commitment to sustainability and innovation in education.
