UAE UNIVERSITY BUILDING
RENOVATION
Onyx Solar has supplied custom-colored photovoltaic glass for the creation of a photovoltaic curtain wall at the UAE University-Industry Lab 4.0 District Building, located on the university campus in Al-Ain, just 150 km south of Dubai. This installation is part of UAEU’s forward-thinking approach to integrating sustainable technologies into its educational and research facilities.
Installed on the building’s south façade, the photovoltaic curtain wall comprises 201 high-transparency amorphous silicon glass units. The glass panels configuration (4+3+4) and dimensions (1,145 x 530 mm and 1,180 x 530 mm) were tailored to the client’s specifications. Additionally, the photovoltaic glass comes in various colors, light blue, dark blue, purple, and neutral gray, adding a visually striking element to the building.
Each glass panels features a 10 mm thick argon chamber, providing enhanced thermal and acoustic insulation. This design helps minimize heat loss and maintain comfortable indoor temperatures, crucial in a region where outdoor temperatures often exceed 40ºC (104ºF).
The Industry 4.0 District is part of UAE University’s ambitious “University of the Future” initiative, designed to immerse students in the technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The district includes five major laboratories, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, Mini-Factory, Fabrication Laboratory, App Factory, and a Materials Library, offering students cutting-edge research and industrial application opportunities.
