Onyx Solar has provided its colored Photovoltaic Glass integrated as a photovoltaic curtain wall for the UAE University-Industry Lab 4.0 District Building, located in the campus of Al-Ain, a city just 150 km south of Dubai.

Located in the south façade of the building, the installation has 144 m2 and it is composed of 201 high transparency amorphous silicon photovoltaic glass units with a glass configuration of 4+3+4, which measures 1,145x530 mm and 1,180x530 mm. The PV glass has been customized in different colors according to the client’s need in light blue, dark blue, purple, and neutral gray.

All the modules have a 10 mm thick argon chamber to provide additional thermal and acoustic insulation. It achieves a U-value near 0.1 to minimize heat loss and maintain a comfortable average temperature inside the building. This is important for a place that usually exceeds 40 ºC (104 ºF).

The Industry 4.0 District is a major undertaking by UAE University as part of its ambitious plan to be the University of the Future. This “District” hosts Labs that bring about different aspects of the Fourth Industrial Revolution into the education of UAEU students in terms of courses and programs, projects, research, and industrial applications. The “District” will start by hosting five major laboratories, namely; Robotics and Artificial Laboratory, Mini-Factory, Fabrication Laboratory, App Factory, and a Materials Library.
