CLASSROOM BUILDING · VALLADOLID, SPAIN
Following the tremendous success of the photovoltaic skylight installation at the Lucia building, recognized as the most sustainable in Europe and the northern hemisphere, the University of Valladolid once again entrusted Onyx Solar to enhance its infrastructure with renewable energy solutions.
This time, Onyx Solar spearheaded the project for installing photovoltaic parasols at one of the university’s classroom buildings. In addition to supplying the monocrystalline silicon glass modules, Onyx Solar managed the mechanical and electrical aspects of the installation. These parasols not only provide essential shade for the classrooms but also generate clean energy from sunlight. The system has a peak installed power of 9.7 kW and is expected to generate approximately 12,895 kWh annually, significantly contributing to the university’s sustainability goals.
Founded in the 13th century, the University of Valladolid is one of the world’s oldest institutions, educating over 32,000 undergraduate students with a faculty of more than 2,000 teachers. This project underscores its commitment to integrating modern, sustainable technologies into its historic legacy.
Moreover, this installation reinforces the university's reputation as a leader in sustainable practices, setting a benchmark for other academic institutions to follow. By incorporating cutting-edge photovoltaic technology, the project not only enhances the energy efficiency of the university but also serves as an educational tool for students and faculty. The parasols stand as a visual testament to the university's forward-thinking approach, merging the old and new in a cohesive blend of tradition and innovation.
